Takeaways from Sunday's action.

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

There were numerous things I noticed from the twelve games that were played yesterday. What stood out the most from Sunday’s action?

New Orleans Saints vs Detroit Lions: Brees is back

After starting the season 1-2, the Saints were in trouble after trailing the Lions 14-0 to begin the game. A 1-3 start would have been tough to climb out of, but now the Saints won’t have to worry about that. Despite being without star receiver Michael Thomas, Brees threw for two touchdowns, had only one turnover, and averaged an astounding 9.8 yards per attempt while leading his team to 35 points. After a slow start to the season for his standards, Brees came up big on Sunday.

Los Angeles Chargers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Brady dominates.

The Buccaneers came back from 17 points down to defeat the Chargers thanks to the efforts of Tom Brady. Despite being without Chris Godwin, Brady threw for 369 yards, five touchdowns, and only one interception. The Buccaneers have now won three games in a row and are in first place in the NFC South with a 3-1 record.

New York Giants vs Los Angeles Rams: Rams offense struggles

The Rams were only able to put up 17 points against a team that had just allowed 36 points against a backup quarterback in Nick Mullens. The Rams are 3-1, but the teams they have beaten have a combined record of just 2-9-1. Has the league figured out Sean Mcvay’s offense?

Buffalo Bills vs Las Vegas Raiders: The Bills are Super Bowl contenders

As of October 4th, 2020, the Bills and Seattle Seahawks are the only 4-0 teams in the entire NFL. With an emerging young QB, playmakers on offense, a talented defense, and a good coaching staff, the Bills can beat anybody. The days of the Bills being a pushover appear to be long gone.

Philadelphia Eagles vs San Francisco 49ers: Nick Mullens disappoints.

Nick Mullens ranked 3rd all-time in NFL history in passing yards through a QB's first 9 NFL games. However, much of that production came against poor competition. This Sunday night against the Eagles, Mullens struggled as the 49ers fell to 2-2 on the seasons.

Minnesota Vikings vs Houston Texans: Texans are in big trouble.

The 1992 San Diego Chargers are the only team in NFL history to make the playoffs after starting the season 0-4. Despite winning the division each of the past two seasons, the team's winless start through four games cost head coach Bill O’Brien his job.

Seattle Seahawks vs Miami Dolphins: Russell Wilson remains the MVP front-runner.

No quarterback in NFL history has thrown for more touchdowns through the first four games of the season than Russell Wilson has during his teams 4-0 start. Wilson has never won the MVP award, let alone received a single first-place vote. If the former Wisconsin Badger continues to play at this level, those two things will change this season.

Cleveland Browns vs Dallas Cowboys: Jason Garrett wasn’t the only problem with the Cowboys.

For years, Jason Garrett was the constant scapegoat for the Cowboys struggles. Despite Garrett no longer being with the team, the Cowboys have gotten off to a 1-3 start. If not for a miracle win against the Atlanta Falcons in week two, Dallas would be 0-4 right now.

Arizona Cardinals vs Carolina Panthers: We may have crowned Kyler Murray too early.

After an impressive rookie campaign and a 2-0 start this season, many assumed that Kyler Murray was about to take the NFL by storm. The former #1 overall pick averaged a dreadful 4.3 yards per attempt against the Panthers on Sunday as the Cardinals lost their second game in a row.

Baltimore Ravens vs Washington Football Team: Lamar Jackson bounces back

After a dreadful performance against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night football, Lamar Jackson led his team to a dominant win over the Washington Football Team.

Indianapolis Colts vs Chicago Bears: Nick Foles inconsistencies continues

Nick Foles is well known for leading the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl. However, the former Super Bowl MVP has never been a consistent quarterback, there's a reason why he’s never started all 16 games in a season. After leading an impressive comeback against the Atlanta Falcons and securing the Bears starting quarterback job, Foles struggled mightily against the Colts on Sunday.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Cincinnati Bengals: We may have underestimated Joe Burrow’s supporting cast.

When Joe Burrow got drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals, many assumed that the organization would fail to surround the former Heisman Trophy winner with the right players to have him succeed in the NFL. Despite that, Burrow received lots of help in his first-ever NFL victory. Joe Mixon, the 24-year-old running back, recorded over 180 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. Tee Higgins, the team's recent 2nd round pick, recorded 77 yards in just his third career NFL game. The Bengals have a collection of young talent that may transform the team into a contender in the future.
